Species Notes
We see American Coot at least
20 times a year.
Between 1996 and
2012, we've seen American Coot
at 128 different locations.
Adult Coots are very familiar to us in the San Francisco Bay Area, but the chicks with their fuzzy orange hairdos are still fascinating to watch. We also now watch for the draconian way the parents drive off their weaker offspring.
